Aloha, Beautiful Souls.

Have you ever thought of someone right before they called? Kept seeing the same number on clocks, receipts, and license plates until you could no longer call it a coincidence? Had a stranger say the exact words you needed to hear that day?

In this episode, we explore the beautiful mystery of synchronicity. We talk about why meaningful coincidence seems to increase during spiritual awakening, dark nights of the soul, and major life transitions. We move through the many languages synchronicity speaks, including dreams, books, songs, animals, numbers, and chance encounters. We talk about why two people can witness the exact same sign and only one feels its meaning, and what that has to do with intuition. We sit with what it means when life starts repeating the same lesson louder and louder. And we close with the real goal of this work: not chasing signs, but learning to trust yourself enough to recognize them when they arrive.

This episode is an invitation to wonder rather than an attempt at answers. Come curious. Come open. The universe is always speaking. This hour is about learning to listen.

In this episode:

  • Why synchronicity has fascinated humans across every culture and era
  • Why signs and patterns seem to increase during awakening, transition, and grief
  • The many forms synchronicity takes, and why they're all speaking the same language
  • The connection between intuition and recognizing meaningful coincidence
  • What it means when the universe gets louder, and what it's trying to teach you
  • How to live in genuine partnership with the mystery, without exhausting yourself chasing it

Next week on the show: manifestation, and why awareness always comes first.

If this episode resonated with you, I would love for you to share it with someone who needs to hear it today. And if you have a synchronicity story of your own, I always love hearing them.

Aloha, Beautiful Souls. Stay open. Stay aware.

Aloha, beautiful souls. Welcome back to the Ocean Moonflower Show. I'm so glad you're here wherever you are listening from today. Maybe you're driving or walking, or perhaps you're curled up with a cup of tea and a few quiet minutes to yourself. However, you arrived here today. I want you to take one breath with me before we begin. Take a deep breath in and out. Good. So let's begin. Today we are talking about synchronicity. We're going to begin with the mystery of meaningful coincidence. This is something that almost every single one of you listening has experienced. Whether or not you have ever had the language to explain it. We're talking about synchronicities. You know the moment. You think about an old friend you haven't spoken to in years, and suddenly that phone rings. And who's on the line? Well, it's them, of course. You're wrestling with a decision, perhaps turning it over and over in your mind, and you glance up and see the exact words you needed on a billboard you're driving by, or perhaps even on the bumper sticker of the car in front of you, or even on the cover of a stranger's book while you're sitting on the bus. You keep seeing the same numbers, perhaps 1111, 333, 444, 777. They show up on clocks, on receipts, on license plates, until you can no longer pretend that it's nothing. Human beings have always been fascinated by meaningful coincidence. It's woven into nearly every culture and every era of recorded history. The ancient Greeks read omens and the flight patterns of birds. Indigenous traditions around the world have long understood that the appearance of certain animals at certain moments is a message, not an accident. Well, sailors once read The Color of the Sky. Farmers once read the behavior of animals before a storm. Long before any of us had a word like synchronicity, we had this instinct, this deep human knowing that the world is not simply a random collection of unconnected events, that sometimes the timing itself is the very message. The word synchronicity itself comes to us from the psychiatrist Carl Jung, who described it as a meaningful coincidence between an inner psychological state and an outer event, where there is no causal connection between them. In other words, two things happen at the same time, they feel deeply connected, and yet there's no obvious reason why one would cause the other. You think of someone and they call. And yet it happens again and again and again to people in every corner of the world and every era of history. Here's what I want to offer to you today, right at the beginning, before we go any further, this episode is not going to hand you a tidy explanation for why synchronicity happens. I'm going to stand here and tell you I have cracked the code. I'm not going to stand here and tell you that I've cracked the code of the universe, and I can explain the mechanisms behind meaningful coincidence in a way that would satisfy a laboratory scientist. That's not what this is about. This is about wonder. It's about giving yourself permission in a world that often insists everything must be explained, measured, and even proven before it can be trusted. But to simply notice instead, to simply wonder and say, that was strange and that was beautiful, and I don't fully understand it, and I don't need to in order to let it move me. Because here's the truth, my beautiful souls, the most meaningful moments of our lives rarely arrive with full explanations attached. The moment you met the person you would go on to love, or perhaps the moment you knew somehow that it was time to leave a job, a city, a relationship that had quietly stopped serving you, the moment that grief cracked you open and something on the other side of that crack felt against all logic, like comfort, those moments don't come with footnotes. They come with a feeling. And synchronicity is one of the most universal, most cross-cultural, most deeply human ways that feeling announces itself. So today we're going to sit with the mystery together, just like we always do. We're going to talk about why synchronicity seems to increase during certain seasons of our lives. We're also going to talk about the many different languages that it speaks in. We're going to talk about intuition and how two people can stand in the exact same moment, and only one of them recognizes that something significant just happened. And we're going to talk about what it means to live not in pursuit of these signs, but in genuine partnership with the mystery itself. Let's get into something I find genuinely fascinating, and something so many of you have written to me about. Patterns seem to be emerging everywhere you look. The same word keeps appearing in conversations and songs, in the titles of books you pass in the store? It's as though the volume of the universe has been turned up. And by up, I mean way up. They're getting your attention. So here's the question: is the universe actually speaking more loudly during these times? Or has something shifted in us that allows us to finally hear what's been there all along? I genuinely believe it might be both. I think that it's more of a beautiful answer than just choosing one. So let's talk about when this tends to happen, because the pattern is remarkably consistent across the people I have worked with and read for over the years. It happens during spiritual awakening when something inside you is cracking open to a larger sense of who you are and what this life is actually for. It also happens during what some traditions call the dark night of the soul, that period of genuine darkness and disorientation that so often precedes real transformation. It also happens during major life transitions, when an old identity is dissolving, and a new one has yet not yet fully formed. It happens at the end of relationships when grief has stripped away so much of the noise that we are normally living behind, that we can't help but see what's going on. And it happens at the beginning of new chapters when we are genuinely open, genuinely searching, genuinely asking the universe for guidance in a way we may not have asked for in years. Do you notice what all of these seasons have in common? They're all seasons of heightened sensitivity, where our usual defenses, the ones that keep us comfortably numb to the subtler textures of life, have been worn down or cracked open by circumstance. Grief does this, heartbreak does this, the disorientation of major change does this. When we are forced out of autopilot, even by painful circumstances, we become more open, more aware, more awake. We're able to notice what was quite possibly always there in the first place. I want to offer you a metaphor that I love because I think it captures this so well. Imagine you're in a room full of people having a hundred different conversations at once. Most of the time, it's just noise. I mean, have you ever been in a dinner party where so many people are talking all at once and you're you're involved in all these conversations, but it's it's just noise, nothing's really standing out. It's a wall of sound you have learned to tune out so that you can function. But if someone across that crowded room says your name, even quietly, even in the middle of all that noise, you hear it instantly. I've had that situation occur many times while I was working behind the bar. I could be so focused on everything else I was doing, I wasn't listening to a single conversation at the bar. But then I hear my name and boom, instantly I'm tuned in. Your brain is wired to pick up that signal out from the chaos. Well, I believe that synchronicity works in a similar way. The signs, the patterns, the meaningful coincidences, they may be happening around us far more often than we consciously register. But during ordinary, settled seasons of life, we're not simply listening for our name. We're moving through the noise on autopilot, and then life cracks us open through awakening, through loss, through change, transition, even a dark night of the soul, and suddenly we're listening differently. Suddenly we hear our name being called from across the room. This is why so many of you tell me that the synchronicity started right around the time everything in your life seemed to be falling apart. It's not a cruel coincidence, it's not the universe kicking you in the ass while you're down. It's quite the opposite. It's the universe, or even your deepest intuition, shall we say, depending on how you want to call it, finally being able to reach you because the noise that usually drowns it out has gone dreadfully silent. So if you're in one of those seasons right now, if you're in the middle of an awakening, a heartbreak, a transition, a dark night of the soul that feels like it has no end, I want you to hear this clearly. The strange increase in signs and synchronicities you're noticing, it's not malfunction. It's your imagination running away with you. Perhaps, but no, it's not that either. It is very possibly the clearest evidence available that something important is happening inside you right now, and that you are, for the first time in a long time, genuinely listening to the universe. So now let's talk about the many different forms synchronicity actually takes, because I think sometimes we get so fixated on one or two examples, such as repeating numbers being the most common one people mentioned to me, that we miss just how many languages the mystery actually speaks. So let's start with dreams. So many of you have told me about dreams that arrived right before a major event. Dreams that seem to know something your waking mind had not yet caught up to. A dream about a person right before they call out of nowhere after years of silence. I know many of you twin flames have experienced that. A dream that feels less like a story and more like a direct transmission. So vivid, way more vivid than your ordinary dreams simply seem to be, that you wake up and you feel like you have this tremendous new knowledge. Have you had these dreams, beautiful souls? I know I have at times. And I don't think they're random. I think the veil between our waking and dreaming minds is thinner than we thought we're taught to believe, right? Or that we think. And synchronicity loves to slip through whenever that veil is thin. Then there are books. Oh, the books. I am a book lover. Absolutely adore books. The book that falls off the shelf for no reason and lands open to the exact page you needed. How do you explain that one? Or the book that a stranger recommends in a conversation that has nothing to do with books at all. The title that catches your eye across a room at the precise moment you were silently asking a question you hadn't said out loud to anyone. I cannot tell you how many times in my own life a book has seemed to find me rather than the other way around. Now, songs do this too. Music has been especially strong with synchronicity in my life. I know many of you can relate to that because you've told me so. The song that comes on the radio the moment you needed exactly those words. The song you cannot get out of your head for days until you finally sit with the lyrics and realize they've been trying to tell you something the whole damn time. Music moves through us in ways that bypass our rational mind entirely. And I think that is exactly why synchronicity uses it so often. It does not need our logical permission to land emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and give us clarity. Now, have you ever thought about the fact that animals carry messages too? We mentioned the birds, right? In nearly every spiritual tradition across human history, animals have carried messages. The owl that appears at an unusual hour, or the butterfly that will not leave you alone during a walk you needed to take alone with your grief. The bird that lands close enough to look you directly in the eye. I don't think it's an accident that so many cultures, separated by oceans and centuries with no contact between them, independently develop traditions around animal messengers. Something about the presence of another living creature arriving at precisely the right moment speaks to something very old and very true within us. And then there's numbers, of course. We briefly talked about that. We have to talk about the numbers. 1111 2224 333 777, whatever your particular number combination is, and most of you reading along with me right now, listening to this podcast, already know exactly which ones keep finding you. I'm not going to spend our time today walking through numerological meanings of things, because that is genuinely a whole episode in and of itself. But what I want you to notice today is simply this the numbers aren't the point. The numbers are the doorbell. What matters is that you answered the door at all. And then there are the encounters, the chance meetings that did not feel like chance at all. The stranger at the coffee shop, or even the airport, or the grocery line, who says one sentence to you, sometimes without even fully realizing what they have said, that lands directly on the exact thing you needed to hear that day. I have had strangers say things to me that stopped me in my tracks. Things they had no way of knowing were relevant to my life. Things that felt like they had been sent specifically and only for me. And I know that there are many of you who have also experienced that. Many, many, many people I work with have described similar circumstances and conversations. The friend who brings up the exact topic you had been quietly wrestling with alone, or the family member who completely unprompted says the thing you needed permission to hear. But now let's talk about that overheard fragment of a stranger's conversation that you overheard on the street that answers a question you'd been wrestling with and carrying very silently for weeks. I want you to notice something as I've walked through all of this. None of these are separate, unrelated categories. They're all the same mystery, but they're speaking in, shall we say, different dialects? Dreams, books, songs, animals, numbers, strangers, conversations. They are all doors that the same deeper intelligence, whatever you choose to call it, your higher self, your guides, the universe, God, source, the great mystery, you know, whatever you want to call it. They're doors that that deeper intelligence can knock on. And I'd be willing to bet that as I have been speaking, you have already started remembering your own examples, a specific song, a specific stranger, or even a dream that still gives you chills when you think about it today. That remembering is exactly what I want for you in this moment. Because the truth is you do not need me to convince you that synchronicity is real. Your own life has already been trying to convince you of that for years. Many times you'll believe it, and other times you'll dismiss it. Now, on that note, here's where I want to talk about something a little deeper. I think it's the heart of today's episode. Here's a question worth sitting with. Two people can stand in the exact same room, witness the exact same event, and only one of them will walk away feeling that something meaningful just happened. The same owl lands on the same fence at the same moment in front of two people, and one of them feels chills run down their spine, while the other simply thinks, huh? An owl. That's cool. And keeps on walking. But why? I do not believe the difference is luck. I don't believe the difference is the universe loves one of the two people more than the other. I believe the difference involves intuition. Here's what I've come to understand over the years of doing this work, and I've been doing this for decades now. The sign is really the most important part of synchronicity. The feeling is, it's that inner knowing, your awareness, the willingness to trust what rises up in you that transforms an ordinary moment into a meaningful one. The owl does not become a message because of some objective property of owls. It becomes a message because something in you recognized it as a message. Your intuition is the instrument that receives the signal. It's kind of like, you know, uh, I think about Stranger Things in that moment where Dusty Buns, my favorite character, is sitting on top of the hill and uh, you know, trying to talk to his woman, you know, the instrument that received the signal was was the um the radio. But in this particular case, the instrument that receives a signal is your intuition. And without that being in tune and ready, the signal would just pass right through you unnoticed. Just like the way the radio waves pass through a room with no receiver turned on to catch them. This is why developing your intuition is not some separate optional spiritual hobby. It's the very thing that that determines how much of the guidance available to you in this life you will actually be able to receive. Two people, the same owl, the same fence, the same moment. But only one of them had the receiver turned on. And this, my beautiful souls, is one of the reasons I love tarot so much and rune readings and even astrology, because the cards themselves are not the magic. They do not contain some external power that reaches out and changes your life. What tarot does, what astrology does, what Reiki does, what working with runes does, is something quieter and in many ways far more powerful. These practices train the very instrument we've been talking about. They strengthen your intuition. They teach you to trust the quiet voice inside you that already knows things that your rational mind is not yet caught up to. Every time you sit with the cards and feel into what a particular image is saying to you in that moment, beyond the textbook meaning, beyond what the reader on YouTube is saying, beyond what you're seeing visibly, you're practicing exactly the skill that allows you to recognize synchronicity when it shows up in your actual life. That's connection. And that is why I keep coming back to these practices, episode after episode, year after year. They're not separate from the mystery we're talking about today. They're training grounds for it. Every reading for you is practice in trusting your own inner knowing. And the more you practice trusting it at the tarot table, or with dowsing rods, or with runes or meditation, the more naturally that trust extends into the rest of your life, into that owl on the fence, into the stranger's unexpected sentence, and into the numbers that keep chasing you everywhere you go. So now let's uh let's get a little bit further into the mystical. Because I think this deserves some real attention. I'd be willing to bet that every single one of you listening right now has had a season in your life where it felt like the universe was no longer whispering. It was shouting at you. The same lesson kept repeating. The same theme showed up in relationship after relationship, job after job, conversation after conversation, until you simply could not pretend any longer that it was a coincidence. The same opportunity kept presenting itself in different forms, as though life were giving you chance after chance to finally say yes. The same warning kept arriving through different messengers until ignoring it would have required a kind of willful blindness you could no longer sustain. So why exactly does this happen? I believe with my whole heart that life is patient, but is not it is not infinitely patient in the way we sometimes wish it would be. I believe there's a real and consistent pattern to how the deeper intelligence of this universe tries to get our attention. It starts out gently, a whisper, a subtle feeling, a small sign that's easily dismissed as nothing. If we do not notice, or if we notice and choose to ignore it, the volume turns up. The whisper becomes a tap on the shoulder, the tap becomes a clear and unmistakable pattern. But then what happens if we still don't listen? Eventually, for many of us, life arranges something we simply cannot walk past. Might be a crisis or a loss, a door that slams so loudly, we finally have to stop and turn around. Sometimes people mistake that for punishment, but my dear beautiful souls, I want to be very clear that because so many people carry a quiet fear that the universe is somehow keeping score and waiting to discipline them, they will feel that way. But that has never been my experience with this mystery, and I do not believe that it is true. I believe this escalation is something closer to love. It is the insistence of showing something that genuinely wants you to have the life, the lesson, the relationship, the freedom that is trying to reach you. It keeps knocking because it's not willing to give up on you. Even when you've been tempted to give up on yourself. So, what is life trying to teach us in these loud seasons? Almost always, in my experience, it's teaching us something about trust and about release and about the courage required to finally choose differently than we have always chosen before. The lesson is rarely as complicated as we make it out to be in our own minds. It's usually something quite simple that we already know beneath the noise of our daily distractions. Leave, stay, speak, rest, forgive, begin. And what happens when we refuse to listen even as the volume keeps rising? As I said, in my experience, life does not give up. It simply waits and it keeps offering the lesson again and again, in new packaging, in a new relationship, a new job, a new health concern, a new ending, until eventually, one way or another, we learn what we came here to learn. Sometimes the gentle way, and sometimes the harder way. But I have never in all my years doing this work met a single person for whom the lesson simply disappeared because they refused to look at it. It only ever waits. So if your life feels loud right now, if you feel like you're being shown the same thing over and over from every possible angle, I want you to consider with real gentleness towards yourself what it might be that you have not yet said yes to. Not from a place of free fear, but from a place of genuine curiosity. The universe is rarely trying to hurt you in these moments. They want to bring something extraordinary to you. And to finally get through. So where does this leave us, my beautiful souls? What do we actually do with all of this? Here's what I want to leave you with today, and I want you to really receive this because I think it matters more than any single sign or number or symbol that we have talked about so far. The goal is not to spend your life hunting for signs. I have met people who have turned synchronicity into a kind of anxious scavenger hunt, scanning every license plate, every clock, every stranger's t-shirt for proof that the universe is paying attention to them. That's not partnership with the universe. I mean, come on, that's grasping. It's grasping at straws, it's grasping at every little thing you can find. And it's exhausting to the very sensitivity that's trying to prove that it exists. The goal is awareness, the goal is presence. Simply living with your eyes a little more open, your heart a little bit more open, the willingness to notice a little more without forcing it, without demanding that the universe perform for you on command. That's not how the universe works. The goal more than anything else is developing an honest, ongoing relationship with your very own intuition. Learning to trust yourself, learning to recognize the particular quality of your own inner knowing, so that when something meaningful does arrive, whether it's a number, a dream, a stranger, an owl on offense, you don't have to wonder whether it counts. You'll simply know. Just like the way you know your own name, the way you know the voice of someone you love. This is a relationship, beautiful souls, not a transaction, not a system to master. It's a living, ongoing relationship between you and the deeper intelligence of this universe, built the same way every meaningful relationship is built through attention, through trust. You need to show up again and again with an open and willing heart. And once that relationship is genuinely established, you have learned to trust your own awareness and your own intuition, then something beautiful can become possible. Awareness is not the end of the journey, it's just the beginning of something more powerful. So, next week on the show, we're going to talk about manifestation because manifestation, the real manifestation, is what becomes possible once you've done exactly the work we're talking about today. You cannot consciously create the life you want until you are genuinely aware of the life you already have, the patterns you are already living inside of, and the quiet, constant guidance that has been trying to reach you all along. That awareness has to come first, then manifestation can be made possible. So this week, I simply want you to notice. I'm inviting you to notice things around you, not to chase, not to be searching anxiously, not to force it, just notice. When something meaningful arrives, and I promise you it will, let yourself feel it fully without needing to explain it to anyone, including yourself. All right, beautiful souls, thank you so much for spending time with me today. If something in this episode landed for you, I would love for you to share it with someone who needs to hear it. And if you have a synchronicity story of your own, I always love hearing them, so feel free to reach out and share. My website has been updated, oceanmoonflower.com, where you will find tarot readings, rune readings, astrology readings, Reiki, distance healing, and a variety of other things. So do check it out if you have the time. Until next week, when we talk about manifestations, mahalo for your presence here, my darlings. And aloha, beautiful souls. Stay open, stay aware. The universe is always speaking. You are simply learning more and more each day on how to listen.
